Sad news from Oliva Nova (ESP). Cedrick, one of Timothy Hendrix’s (NED) horses, had to be put down with a broken leg.
Timothy Hendrix rode the eleven year-old son of Couleur-Rubin in yesterday’s 1,45 m competiton and made it to the jump-off after a clear first round. And then it happend: in one of the turns the chestnut made a false step and did not set his foot down in the right way which ultimately led to a fracture. After careful consideration it was decided to put Cedrick down and relieve him from his pain.
The loss of Cedrick is a severe setback for Hendrix. Only in November 2014 the couple finished second in the Grand Prix of Maastrich.
Hendrix was in shock after the accident: “He probably put to much force on one leg in a quick turn which led to a fracture. A veterinarian and other people where there immediately to help and we did x-rays. The fracture was so bad that we had to put him down. It was a really bad accident and a situation like that is every rider’s nightmare. You always hope that it will never happen to you and today it happend to me with the most beloved horse in our stable. It is unbelievable… Terrible. He did not have to suffer for long but to me, the Hendrix Stables and the Dutch sport it is a severe loss. He had so much potential. It is horrible that it had to end this way.”
