Portuguese show jumping rider Marina Frutuoso de Melo is deeply saddened by the loss of her top horse Coltaire Z (Carthago Z x Voltaire) after a horrible fall at the Portuguese Championships last weekend (25-28 June 2015).
The 18 year old grey had to be put down after the horrific incident from which he suffered multiple fractures. Marina and Antonio Frutuoso de Melo had to make a difficult choice but decided to let their beloved horse go.
With Coltaire Marina won the Portuguese Championships five times and competed in many Nations Cups and international Grand Prix. Also, the duo participated in the European Championships three times (2009, 2011, 2013).
Marina wanted to retire Coltaire during the European Championships in Aachen (GER) this year.
On her Facebook page she wrote: “To all who at the moment as I will be in shock, and certainly will not know what to say. I am used to overcome obstacles, and this will be another. Coltaire Z will be among us always, he has brought us so much joy, so many good times, so many victories and he was so good always in everything that he has done. He will not disappear from our memories, not from our hearts. But nothing will ever be the same.”
