One of the best and most reknown show jumping riders announced today that he is ending his career: Ludo Philippaerts (BEL).
The 51 year old held a press conference at his stables Stoeterij Dorperheide and said that he will retire from the sport.
“After my fall in Fontainebleau last year I kind of developed a mental blockade. I put a lot of thought into this decision. The fact that Olivier and Nicola belong to the best riders themselves now made the decision to step down and focus on their career a little easier. My most memorable moment in my career has been the European Championships in Arnhem 2001 when I won the silver medal”, said Ludo Philippaerts.
Ludo had many more great moments during his career. He competed eleven times in the European Championships and won silven in Arnhem as well as gold with the team in La Baule 1991. Furthermore, he participated in 13 World Cup finals and finished among the top 15 ten times. Ludo also participated in three World Equestrian Games and four Olympic Games.
