For the 45 participants in the CSI3* Gaston Glock’s Championat, there was a double dose of excitement today. Because, in this standard show jumping test over1.50 m with jump-off, this weekend wasn’t just about important points for the world ranking list for riders; also at stake was first qualification for Gaston Glock’s Grand Prix on Sunday with prize money amounting to 100,000 euros. The route to victory involved a single jump-off, for which eleven starting duos qualified by remaining penalty-free in the basic round.
Eight obstacles and nine jumps had to be dealt with as quickly as possible and without penalties. As early as the third ride by Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE), with her eleven-year-old H&M Cue Channa 42, daughter of Cardento, the ultimately best time of 34.96 seconds was established. This Swedish lady, who models for H&M, reckons she has a good chance in the GLOCK’s 3* Grand Prix on Sunday: “Today my horse showed that it’s in top form. She was unbelievably fast in the jump-off and I hope to be somewhere near the front of the field on Sunday too.”
Second place was taken by Fabio Crotta from Switzerland on Tess de Jalesnes, a mare trained in France, just 0.03 seconds behind (0/34.99). In third was Constant van Paesschen (BEL), with Calore van de Helle, in a penalty-free 35.37 seconds. Sole Austrian to reach the jump-off was Stefanie Bistan (NÖ). This 25-year-old strong female rider, with Celline 2, also achieved two clear rounds and took seventh (38.89).
