CM | Racing – On Friday the agency that governs horse racing in Ontario (Canada) launched an experiment: With the use of drones they want to keep jockes from breaking the rules. The first trial was at a cart racing qualifiying race, no spectator betting was allowed.
A small glitch hindered test flight – the internet connection was playing up so the video signal being sent from the drone to the judes was too slow.
“The drivers didn’t notice the drone, the horses themselves didn’t notice the drone either.”, said Brent Stone, the director of the racing commission siad. “The footage we got today was encouraging.”
The use of drones will allow judges to view the jockeys from every angle to make sure they are not violating race rules. With te successful trial they will be used at Quarter horse races and Thoroughbred races.
