Press release Sunshine Tour – British rider Guy Williams with Golddigger had the fastest time today in the Big GP sponsored by Grande Rives, held in arena 3, David Broome. With a very fast time of 63.67 sec he was unbeatable. His compatriot Louise Saywell with Patrol V stopped the clock in 66.12 sec and shared 1st place, with all the prizes being doubled due to the number of entrants being over 100!
Kerry Brennan riding Wellington M and Dermott Lennon con Fleur IV took the two 2nd places and Billy Twomey with Lizziemary and Laura Robinson with Jonti were both 3rd.
This Big GP has started off this weekend’s jumping and tomorrow there are 10 classes with both professional and amateur riders competing. There is also another GP for the profesional riders to qualify for the big event of the week, the Big GP held on Sunday.
Today was the penultimate day for the Young Horses to qualify for their respective Finals next Wednesday 16th March. In one section of the 7yr olds, British rider Thomas Whitaker with Evita W was 1st, Belgian rider Viktor Daem 2nd with Jeruzalem Van Dorpe and 3rd with D Cancarra A.C whilst his compatriots Boy-Adrian Van Gelderen with Babe WZ and Stefan Corten with Eye Catcher VL were 1st and 2nd in the other section with British rider Robert Maguire and Arramis in 3rd. There are 49 horses through to the Final with another 17 on 6 clear rounds and still in with a chance to qualify next Tuesday, for the Final on Wednesday.
In the 6yr olds French rider Julien Epaillard with Allumette D’Auge and Spanish rider Javier González Fraga with Conquistadora were the winners of their sections and British riders Tara McDonald with Fygo Von D’Ouwe and Lance Whitehouse with Whitesparke Blanko were 2nd. Joe Whitaker with Redhill Fanta and Samy Cotton with Moonlight IX completed the ribbons. There are already 68 Young Horses through to the Final with 17 on 6 clears with one more chance to qualify on Tuesday.
In the 5yr olds British rider Rosie Gunn won the class with Jagerbomb, Jade Couch with Giovanca was 2nd and the Portuguese rider Salvador Fonseca with Corvette was 3rd. 63 horses jumped today with 25 going clear. There are 41 already through to the Final with another 13 depending on a clear round on Tuesday in order to qualify.
