Bei der Versteigerung wurden zwar für den Oldenburger Hengst knapp 2,8 Millionen Euro geboten, doch die waren nicht genug. Denn obwohl sich das Anfangsgebot von 1,5 Millionen Euro fast verdoppelt hatte, wurde mit den 2,8 Mio Euro der sogenannte Reservepreis nicht erreicht. Zur Erklärung: die Besitzer des Pferdes konnten bei dieser Versteigerung bereits im Vorfeld ihr Mindestgebot festlegen. Wird dieses nicht erreicht, wird das Pferd nicht verkauft. Somit ist Armitages Boy nun nicht verkauft.

Der derzeitige Reiter von Armitages Boy, Aymeric de Ponnat, hatte zuletzt noch vergeblich versucht, Investoren für einen Kauf zu finden. Das Duo war zum Beispiel bei der EM in Herning 2013 erfolgreich für Frankreich am Start gewesen (Rang vier mit dem Team und Platz elf im Einzel). Außerdem waren sie erst im August diesen Jahres Vierte im CSI5* Grand Pix von Dinard und Zweite im Nationenpreis von Rotterdam.
