Many horses have died in the history of the event. This year, two horses had to be put down again. The first of them had to be euthanized on Saturday (4 July) after it broke a leg in a Chuckwagon Race.
The second one was put down on Tuesday (7 July) after a collision on Monday.
Since 1986, 60 horses died in Chuckwagon Races which is why animal welfare protectors critizize the event vehemently.
