The equestrian family in the USA is currently in shock. The twelve year old Selle Francais gelding Phedras de Blondel has been stolen from his stall on Olympic rider Debbie Stephens’ property on Sunday (25 October) and was slaughtered on the grounds of her farm.

The offspring of Fetiche De Pas SF X Belphegor IV was found by his owner. Whoever committed the cruel crime did not only kill Phedras but also removed large pieces of meat from his body. Stephens was at home when the incident happened.
Phedras de Blondel arrived only two days prior to the crime. Debbie Stephens bought him on 18 October from Nicolas Paillot and Arly Golombek and he was moved to the US. On 22 October he left the quarantine at Miami International Airport.
Debbie Stephens’ farm is located in Palmetto, only three hours away from Florida’s equestrian hotspot Wellington. It is likely that the incident has something to do with the recent bust of illegal slaughterhouses for horses in the Palm Beach County area.
