The british magazine Horse & Hound recently published a bloodcurdling report about endurance horses in the middle east with amputated limbs. The horses get makeshift prosthetics instead and live on with their handicap. The videos also provoked concern from the FEI and World Horse Welfare.
The FEI talked about „very disturbing“ images. The issue will be raised at a forum in FEI Group VII (Middle East) this winter. One video shows a mare with a missing foot as she is being loaded into a trailer. The video caption says that the amputation was done after an injury at the CEI* 100 in Riyadh in January. Her starting number is still visible.
Another video shows a grey who had half of his foreleg amputated and is wearing a makeshift prosthetic attached to a small wheel.
