Dressage, jumping and eventing are olympic sports, where the horses are playing the star role. But concerning the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro there are currently not many positive things to look at from the rider’s view. In the past the whole area had to be closed because of a starving infection called ‘Rotz’, now unsettled import determinations of the four-legged-superstars cause big problems.
The discussion came up because the FEI wanted faster veterinary inspections to make the trip more confortable for the horses. This demand wasn’t in favour of the brazilian administration and became now a conflict. According to the president of the brazilian riders association CBH, Luiz Roberto Giugni, the problem needs to be solved by the end of the month – otherwhise it can happen that the horse competitions cannot be held in Brazil.
In case the two parties cannot find a solution then the horse competitions will be probably held in another country. This happenend during the Olympic Games 1959 in Australia – there the horses competed in the swedish capital Stockholm.
Austrians number one dressage rider Victoria Max-Theurer probably hopes for the last case. She cannot compete her top-horse Augustin OLD in Brazil because of the difficult import determinations of horse feeding. The 15-year old Oldenburg stallion needs a special feeding after his kolik operation, which isn’t possible in Brazil. In Europe a perfect care and feeding would be provided for Augustin OLD.
