The British rider, Guy Williams riding Gold Digger was the winner of the Big class at today’s XXII Sunshine Tour. He jumped the course designed by the Italian Elio Travagliati clear in 57.66 seconds. Fellow compatriot Max Routledge on Carus Royale came second, just one second behind Guy Williams. Bertram Allen, from Ireland, with his mount Izzy By Picobello, flew into third with a time of 60.36 seconds.
The Irish have had an excellent day with Bertram Allen also winning the 1.30m and 1.35m classes. In the 1.35m he won with Quarto Mail in 57.66 seconds and in the 1.30 with Valentino V with a clear in 58.22 seconds.
The British rider Phillip Miller riding Sussex Caretino and the Belgian rider Jos Verlooy with Victer Fenn Deh Z took second and third, respectively, in the 1.35m class, whilst the Brit, Jake Aston on Celeste SPB and the Belgian Jerome Guery with Curby du Seigneir completed the line up in the smaller class.
These were the very best from over 200 competitors participating today in the three classes, all riders are trying to qualify for the 2* International Jumping Competition, to be held on Saturday, Feb 13th in this first show, building up to the five 3* contests running over the following weeks at the Sunshine Tour.
With so many horses arriving at the showground these are days of intense activity at Dehesa Montenmedio. The staff are busy getting everyone installed and comfortable, ready for the competition where over the following weeks, up till the 20th of March, 1,600 horses will compete.
