Press Release | Jumping – There was great expectation for the Longines Grand Prix, one of the most important tests of the weekend, and this did not disappoint, with a full stands in Casas Novas. The first phase of the Grand Prix was very competitive, with up to 8 riders qualified for the tiebreaker, including the riders from Spain Pilar Cordón and Manuel Fernández Saro.
In the jump off the rider Billy Twomey, last one in the start list, got the first position on the backs of Diaghilev with a time of 38.38 seconds. The Irishman already took this year the prestigious Longines King George V Gold Cup. On the podium of the test he was accompanied by, secondly, the Italian Alberto Zorzi, who, on the back of Fair Light van’t Heike, stopped the chrono just a few tenths after the first, 38.64 seconds. Zorzi has completed a great year, with his recent victory in Oslo at the Longines World Cup.
The third position was for the Austrian Max Kühner with Cornet Kalua and 40.28 seconds. The rider was a few weeks ago second in one of the tests of the CSI5 * of Vienna.
As for the Spanish, the best classified was Fernandez Saro, so he took home the Tyco Trophy. The rider from Seville was fourth in this test, with 43.53 seconds. The big test of today's CSI 2 * at Casas Novas, Azkar Trophy, was held with a full on the stands of the track too. The Galician public enjoyed more than half a hundred riders and horsewoman who competed for the victory.
The Belgian Ignace Philips rode soon with Dream of San Patrignano, circumstance that did not stop him to made a time of 54.78 seconds. A time that could not be lowered in the whole test. Philips already had good results in the last edition of the contest, with a third place in one of the tests of CSI 2 *.
The second classified, Javier Gonzalez Fraga with Casanova in 56.66 seconds, was one of the most applauded of the public, who recognized the brilliant performance of the rider. González Fraga has achieved successes this year as the third place in the Six Bars of Saint Lô CSI3 *.
The third position was for the binomial formed by José Díaz Vecino and Quielam de Saro, with a time of 57.60 seconds without penalty. The pair already obtained good results in the Grand Prix of the CSN5 * in the Hípica de Toledo of this year.
The CSI 2 * of A Coruña continues with another Spanish victories thanks to the triumph of Paloma Jiménez-Carmona in the Trophy Porsche, first test of the day of Saturday in Casas Novas.
The Spanish rider compited with Providence 3 and stopped the clock in 66.41 seconds without any penalty. Jiménez-Carmona, silver in the Spanish Championship of Young Riders of this year, already competed yesterday in the contest, getting two sixth positions in the Turkish Airlines Trophy and in the Marqués de Riscal Trophy.
The Irish Joanne Sloan-Allen and Championes completed the podium with 67.81 seconds and the local rider Diego Ramos Maneiro, who, riding on Breeze Montemeao, made a time of 68.41 seconds.
The young Galician rider is confirmed as one of the great equestrian promises of his modality, adding to this podium his victory at the recent Dutch Youngster Festival in Wierden.
