CM – The Romanian actor and horse-lover Denis Stefan has set himself the goal of training his Anglo-Arabian mare Uma. Denis rescued the “unrideable” horse from a slaughterhouse. He wants to show the world that a slaughterhorse can be a good riding horse. His great goal is to train Uma as a reining horse and show her at the AMERICANA in Augsburg (Germany).
“People should see what can become of a slaughter horse. If only a handful of people decide to rescue a slaughterhorse m2 “Project Uma” has already made an impact,” says 40-year-old Denis.
As there are hardly any horse trainers and absolutely no Western trainers in Romania Denis acquired all his knowledge in self-study through books and videos. His biggest wish was to be able to work with “real trainers”. EQWO.net was committed to giving him the opportunity to do so in Austria. On Friday (09.03.2017) Denis spent all day with the American horse trainer Joedy Cunningham.
Joedy’s trainingsstable is “Schaflerhof” in Leobendorf (Lower Austria). There Denis was given the opportunity to work with ten different horses – seven from the ground and three from the saddle.

EQWO.net: What did you want to show Denis today?
Joedy Cunningham: ”
My direction for Denis today was to start off with the ground work and then eventually go into the saddle. The reason for that is that Denis works with a lot of horses who need correction. The focus was on moving the horses feet from the ground and then from the saddle. Denis has a very good seat and feel for the horse.”
EQWO.net: How do you think this day helped Denis with Uma? Joedy Cunningham: “He has a much better idea where the feet of the horse belong and when he can focus on his horses feet he can be more succesful in working with his own horse.”
EQWO.net: What was the day like for you?
Denis Stefan: “I came here with high hopes and all expectations have been fulfilled. I’ve met so many nice people and they are all interested in my project. My work ist not in vain, the project seems to interest a lot of people and this simply feels great. I would like to thank Joedy and everyone involved in making this day happen for me.”
EQWO.net: Was will you take home for your training with Uma?
Denis Stefan: “I’m even more confident now that Uma and I can improve and reach her full potential.”
Denis will spend Friday (10.03.2017) with trainer Vern Sapergia.
EQWO.net will continue to be with Denis for the next days and keep you up to date via Snapchat, facebook and on the website
