Austria’s most reknowned series in show jumping, the Casino Grand Prix powered by MUKI, took place from 1 to 4 September 2016 for the last time this season. Of course our Alpenspan riders Dieter Köfler and Anton Martin Bauer participated. After all, Dieter was in the lead after the legs in Linz, Lassee, Lamprechtshausen and Farrach and Martin still had a shot at a good placing in the overall ranking.
Both of them started off well on Thursday. Martin and Meru came fourth in the Youngster Masters (1.25 m), Dieter and Stakkata won the 1.40 m class. Dieter underlined his current topform by winning the qualifier for the Casino Grand Prix on Friday with Askaban as well as finishing second and third aboard Golden Gund and Stakkata. The event continued with Martin and Viano Z’s third place in the Youngster Masters Final (1.30 m) and Dieter and Golden Gun’s fourth place in the Gold Masters (1.45 m) on Saturday.
The final day was opened with a victory by Martin and Viper van Huize Ruisdael in a 1.40 m competition. In the afternoon, the 1.50 m Casino Grand Prix Final took place. Dieter and Askaban were last to go – and had a fence down at the very first jump. Nevertheless, the seventh place in the final was enough for Dieter to win the overall ranking: “Askaban has been great throughout the entire season and the overall win was our goal. He’s going to jump the Austrian Championships next week, so I am not sad that I did not have to go into the jump-off today”, said Dieter. Martin finished 13th in the overall ranking of the Casino Grand Prix.
