ColoradoHorsePark_logoPress Release Colorado Horse Park – Juan Manuel Luzardo of Guadalajara, MEX, and Stan rose to the occasion once again in the highlight class of the week at The Colorado Horse Park (CHP), this time earning victory in the $75,000 Nutrena® Grand Prix for the Mayor’s Cup at Summer In The Rockies VI (SIR). The pair sped to victory, completing the jump-off and stopping the clock in 38.548 seconds. Christian Heineking of Hudson Oaks, TX, and AJE Cluny nearly caught the pair, but finished in second place with a time of 39.386 seconds. Candida Anthony of Redmond, WA, and Ayma de la Demi Lune secured third place with double clear effort and a time of 40.215 seconds. Competition at CHP continues this week with the final installment of the Summer In The Rockies Series, beginning Wednesday, July 20, and concluding Sunday, July 24.

Luzardo and Stan, who also captured top honors in last week’s $60,000 Summer In The Rockies Grand Prix, kept the same poise and efficiency they demonstrated in the week prior, leading them to another major victory at CHP this season. The pair made easy work of the first round set by Marina Azevedo and would go on to complete one of six double clear efforts.

„He’s an amazing horse, just awesome. He always surprises me because he’s better than I could have ever imagined. He always tries to do his best and go as fast as he can,“ said Luzardo.

„I tried to be clean and do some of the tighter options on courses. I was able to do one stride less to the last fence, which I think is where we made the difference,“ he added.

While the pair produced two faultless rounds, Luzardo felt the course was set with difficulty and tested each combination on their ability to ride quickly, but also keep the rails firmly seated in the cups. He commented, „I think the double combination oxer to vertical and the five stride line were very complicated. The double was tough for the horses because they really had to pick themselves up to get over the second fence.“

„The course was tough. He has a huge stride so there were two or three options on course where you could choose to do one less or one more stride in the line. I was holding him to add one more stride to get him in control and to produce a clear round,“ he continued, explaining his thoughts on the track.

Luzardo has established a strong and working relationship with Stan, a 2006 Hanoverian gelding (Stakkato x Silvara) owned by Mauricio Guerra, and the duo will look to continue that success for two more competitions in the U.S. before heading back to Mexico with their sights set contesting their National Championship to be hosted later this season.

„I have very high expectations for him for our next competitions. We will do a lot of grand prix classes in Mexico over the next few months and try to compete in the National Championship,“ he explained. „He’s done very well at this venue.“

Candida Anthony of Redmond, WA, received the Equiline Leading Lady Grand Prix Rider Award in recognition of her rides aboard Ayma de la Demi Lune in both the $20,000 Open Welcome Stake and the $75,000 Nutrena® Grand Prix.

Hunter Holloway and VDL Bravo S Display Expertise in Second $20,000 Welcome Stake Win of the Season at SIR

Hunter Holloway of Topeka, KS, galloped VDL Bravo S to first place on Thursday, July 14, in the $20,000 Open Welcome Stake at The Colorado Horse Park (CHP). Holloway and the 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Ephepe For Ever x Urbine S) owned by Hays Investment Corp., navigated their way through the jump-off course to finish atop the class with a time of 37.38 seconds. Juan Manuel Luzardo of Guadalajara, MEX, and Stan came in just behind the winning pair, securing second place after completing the short course track in 38.37 seconds. Kiwi Iron Mark, owned by June Berrington and guided by Jeffrey Fields from Redwood City, CA, ranked in third, as they stopped the timers in 39.94 seconds.

Holloway has frequented the winner’s circle at CHP, having already claimed the $20,000 Open Welcome Stake on VDL Bravo S and the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby aboard The Governor just two weeks ago at Summer In The Rockies IV. Holloway earned her first grand prix win very early in her career, and now, at eighteen, Holloway is continuing to pave a successful path for herself in the sport.

When discussing her strategy and plan for the class, her plan was simple. She explained, „I wanted to jump clean and go fast. Bravo is a really good speed horse, so I’m able to go for it on him. He felt great and I’m very proud of the way he went in during the class.“

Competition at The Colorado Horse Park will resume, Wednesday, July 20, with the final week of the 2016 Summer In The Rockies Series, which will feature the $100,000 Adequan® Grand Prix on Saturday, July 23.
