Patrice Delaveau has an amazing weekend

What a week-end for the Haras des Coudrettes ! And what a week-end for Patrice Delaveau who has now won his third class at the Jumping International of Bordeaux 2016, increasing the number of victories for the Haras des Coudrettes to 4 (over five classes until the Grand Prix Land Rover), with the victory of Kevin Staut yesterday night in the FEI Longines World Cup Grand Prix on Rêveur de Hurtebise *HDC. Today, it was Ornella Mail *HDC, already counting a success on friday, who came back on the spotlight… Kind of a routine. Isn’t the rider jaded by all these victories ? : « Of course not! Well, they’re not actually big classes, but it’s still a pleasure to win something. It’s the first time that I win three times in Bordeaux, but actually, I would have definitely trade two of my wins in the medium classes against one in a big one… » Just like the World Cup Grand Prix of yesterday night that the Normand couldn’t help but try to win while he had to assure a rank in the first nines. Incorrigible!

« Look, if I had tried to ensure a cantered clear-round and that I faulted on the penultimate, I would have been 12th and had to say goodbye to the qualification for Gothenburg. I would have looked foolish ! When it comes to competition, you have to try to win, not just sit and watch what happens. Now I’m qualified for Gothenburg, I came here for that so I did my job ! » Patrice Delaveau indeed ends 9th on Saturday night and 17th of the final global ranking…

There will then be four riders representative of France qualified for the 37th World Cup final (Pénélope Leprévost, Kevin Staut and Simon Delestre will make the trip with the Normand). Only the Germans have done better with one more rider. Switzerland and the Netherlands will present two riders, among them, the defending champion Steve Guerdat. Belgium, Austria and Switzerland (except the wild-cards), Irlande and Great-Britain will only have one representative. Four formers winners of this Cup (Germany’s Christian Ahlmann, Marcus Ehning and Daniel Deusser and Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat) will try to take up the victory again. France only counts one winner (the outsider Bruno Brouqsault in 2004 and who has retired from the top level since then) and frankly, Patrice Delaveau is one of the best and serious shot for France to shine in this wonderful show. Patrice has been to 35 of the 36 editions without being rewarded, it’s definitely not representing the level of the showjumping in France. Go Patrice ! (and the others obviously!)
