She is of the most influential and famous patron of equestrian sports – despite her never wanting to be in the spotlights. In an interview with the Weser Kurier, Madeleine Winter-Schulz explains why she does not see herself as the “good fairy”, her way into equestrian sports and why Ludger Beerbaum and Isabell Werth are kind of family to her.
74-year old Madeleine Winter-Schulze has to laugh when she is being called “Good fairy of German Equestrian sports“. “I am not running around with my magic wand.”
Still, she is perceived as such – especially by her protégés Ludger Beerbaum and Isabell Werth. She has been a supporter of these two for years and always stands behind them. When she talks about them and their success, her eyes start to gleam.
Madeleine spares no effort when it comes to supporting her protégés. On the weekend, she commuted between Verden (GER) where she awarded a prize and Amsterdam where Isabell Werth won the world cup qualifier – just to be able to keep her fingers crossed for her in person.
Winter-Schulze won German Championships in dressage and show jumping and is today mostly known as owner of many top of the world horses.
