The twleve-year-old offspring of Last News competet at Strzegom (POL) in June. After the journey back home his owner and breeder Tina Cook said that he seemed „a little quiet“. After some examinations it turned out that he suffered from shipping fever (pleural pneumonia). Horses can contract shipping fever on long journey without adequate breaks. Tina Cook however did take enough breaks during the journey and the two accompanying horses showed no signs of sickness.
In August De Novo News was moved to the Newmarket Equine Hospital because of fluid in his chest cavity. The doctors gave him a ten percent chance of survival. Additionally, he also formed an abscess under his shoulder blades which the treating vets tried to break down with strong antibiotics.
Last month it seemed as if De Novo was getting better, but yesterday he lost his final fight. „We thought he was going the right way and not far off coming home. The infection got into his joints and they couldn’t manage it“, said a devastated Tina Cook to Horse & Hound.
We wish Tina Cook and the whole team a lot of strength in this difficult time.
