From Canada to Sweden to New York, Deeridge Farms Succeeds Around the World

This summer, Deeridge Farms has made its mark at the top horse shows, not just across the country, but also around the world. The Jacobs Family has scored top ribbons at Spruce Meadows in Canada, Lake Placid in New York, and Falsterbo in Sweden, showcasing their winning ways throughout the summer.

At the Lake Placid Horse Shows in upstate New York, the team saw success in the hunters and jumpers and for every member of the family.

Katie Jacobs Robinson dominated in the Amateur-Owner Hunters, riding Amarillo to the Amateur-Owner 36 & Over Hunter Championship during week one and week two, and then picking up the Amateur-Owner Grand Championship in the second week of action. All in all, Robinson and Amarillo won six of the 10 classes offered during the two weeks, scoring two wins and a second during week one and winning four of five classes during week two. Adding to her basketful of awards, she gathered in the Reserve Championship on week one with Tradewind, winning the Amateur Owner Under Saddle class.

„It was great,“ Robinson smiled. „It was our first show after a great Devon, and you never know how they will come out. I was really happy that Amarillo came out of his stall and got right in the groove. It was great that he stayed focused and didn’t get sour or mad during the second week. He just stayed the same, so that was terrific. I am always happy when Tradewind goes well. I am still getting to know him, but it’s getting a bit more consistent.“

Robinson was happy to have the family along to take advantage of the great outdoors and to get daughter Maggie additional showing experience. „I can remember going there as a kids, so it’s really fun for me to have my kids there, and I love it because I don’t feel like I am being selfish and making them sit around,“ she explained. „They are busy doing stuff like going on the boat, or ice skating, or hanging out with their cousins.“

Robinson’s daughter Maggie, meanwhile, scored a win and a third place finish in Lake Placid. Riding Secret Life, she earned a victory in the Modified Children’s Hunters during the second week after placing third during the first week of action.

„I was really proud of her,“ smiled Katie. „She doesn’t show too frequently, but I think she enjoys doing it when she gets the opportunity.“

Over the past month or so, Charlie Jacobs has been making stops around the world with a trip to Canada for Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta, then back to Lake Placid, New York, and then a trip to Falsterbo, Sweden.

Spruce Meadows was the first stop for Jacobs and son Charlie Jr., who gained invaluable experience at the prestigious venue. „We went to Spruce Meadows for two weeks before we came to Lake Placid, and I really think that helped him get used to jumping on grass and going a little bit more forward down the lines,“ Jacobs Sr. explained. „It was a real eye-opener for him, and I think that set him up nicely for Lake Placid, to have a successful show jumping in the 1.30m. He has two new horses, and Alhaurin De La Nancy has been a great addition to his string. We got her at the end of WEF, and to go and jump in those big classes at Spruce Meadows and Lake Placid is a big change. Charlie consistently got better and better as it went on because he became more comfortable with her.“

Following a second place finish in the $1,000 1.10m Junior/Amateur Welcome Stake at Spruce Meadows, Charlie Jr. rode Under the Radar to success in the Low Junior Jumpers at Lake Placid and was also double clear in the Junior Jumper Classic on Alhaurin De La Nancy.

„As a father it is great to see Charlie’s success in the sport,“ said Jacobs. „A year ago we had a long discussion about whether he was going to ride, period. He was on the fence, as is often the case with most young teenage boys, and he thought he might be the next Supercross star. We asked him if he would give us the summer and just do the jumpers, and by the end of it he was hooked.“

Meanwhile, daughter Katie Jacobs piloted Campesino IV to two third place finishes in the Low Children Jumpers during week three. In the hunters, she scored a win in the Junior 3’3″ Hunter Handy on Chamiro after moving up from the Children’s Hunters during the first two weeks.

„Katie had a really good successful step up into a new division,“ noted Jacobs. „We’ve had Chamiro for three years now, and he’s been a consistently good horse for her. They have a very good rapport, and I am really happy to see her move up.“

During the third week of the Lake Placid Horse Shows, Jacobs had the opportunity to represent the United States of America in Sweden. Jacobs and Flaming Star were sensational, putting in the only double clear round of the day despite a very tight travel schedule.

„Trapper was wonderful,“ he said. „I went to work on Monday in Boston, then flew Monday night and got in Tuesday with the jog on Wednesday. In the Nations Cup, he was tremendous. He was all heart and gave two great, clear rounds for our team.“

Now, the horses are taking a well-deserved break and enjoying some time in their paddocks. To close out the summer, the Jacobs Family and Deeridge Farms will be making stops at the Bromont International Horse Show in Quebec, Canada, the Silver Oak Jumper Tournament, the Fieldstone Horse Shows in Massachusetts, and the Hampton Classic Horse Show in New York.
