Press Release Costa del Sol Equestrian Tour – (Mijas) Dutchman Doron Kuypers claimed victory on Saturday at the Costa del Sol Tour in Mijas (Spain) in the CSI Masters (1.40m). Kuypers left his competitors in his wake with a fault-free round in 37.78 seconds with Dickyville. As it was, very few other riders had made it into the Jump Off – Belgian rider Maxine Harmegnies with Uzar de Ste Hermelle and Spaniard Diego Perez Bilbao with HH Best Buy.
In the CSI Masters Tobias Meyer from Neunkirchen-Seelscheid, who rides for J.S. Sportpferde – Jochen Scherrer, was the top-placing German competitor, coming tenth with Chacco Gold. In addition, Meyer took sixth place in the Premium test with Izmir van de Baeyenne. And Benjamin Wulschner (Wendorf), who on Friday claimed the first German victory in Mijas, celebrated coming second in the Premium Tour (1.40m) with Coeur de Canturo, the Holstein stallion. In the end, Wulschner had to make way for Max Routledge from Great Britain and La Lou de Rouet. In total, seven international showjumping tests were on the programme on day five of the Winter Cup. On Sunday the highlight will be the Grand Prix and on Tuesday the Costa del Sol Equestrian Tour will enter its second week, which again will start with competitions focussing on the young horses.
The Costa del Sol Equestrian Tour, which began on Tuesday with the first multi-week Winter Cup of 2017, has attracted competitors from more than 30 different countries to Andalusia. This can be felt in the town of Mijas (pop. 80,000) too, which is enjoying a sport-related “surge” in visitor numbers. Mijas and the hippodrome are right by each other – just one reason why the leisure options after a day of tournament are so well received amongst the competitors of the Costa del Sol Equestrian Tour. They can go out for a meal, browse, do something with the family or enjoy socialising with friends and colleagues…
